For Utility Data Acquisition and Home Energy Management Services

This privacy notice applies to our utility data acquisition and home energy management services. It describes the nature of personally identifiable information we collect, how we use that information, when and why we may disclose that information and to whom, and how long we maintain that information.
Personally identifiable information is information that identifies a particular person.

Data collection and choice
[User Data] We may collect personally identifiable information when Users visit our site, register on the Site, register for the Services, or use other activities, services, features or resources we make available on our Site. Users may be asked for their name, email address, postal address, house attributes, preferences, utility credentials, mobile phone number, and payment information.
[Your Choice] Users may, however, visit our Site without providing personal information to us. We collect personally identifiable information from Users only if they voluntarily submit such information to us. Users can always refuse to supply personally identifiable information, and doing so may prevent them from engaging in certain Site related activities.
[Technical Information] We may automatically collect other information about Users whenever they interact with our Site, such as browser name, the type of computer, operating system and similar information.
[Utility Data] If you permit your utility company to disclose data regarding your utility bill and usage to us, then we will collect that information directly from the utility company. Upon your request, we may provide this information to other third parties for the purpose of tracking energy usage, encouraging energy savings, and evaluating energy product and services.
Web browser cookies
[Cookies] Cookies are alphanumeric identifiers that we transfer to your computer’s hard drive through your web browser for record-keeping purposes. Some cookies allow us to make it easier for you to navigate our Site, while others are used to enable a faster log-in process or to allow us to track your activities at our Site and Service. There are two types of cookies: session and persistent cookies.
- Session Cookies. Session cookies exist only during an online session. They disappear from your computer when you close your browser or turn off your computer. We use session cookies to allow our systems to uniquely identify you during a session or while you are logged into the Site. This allows us to process your online transactions and requests and verify your identity, after you have logged in, as you move through our Site.
- Persistent Cookies. Persistent cookies remain on your computer after you have closed your browser or turned off your computer. We use persistent cookies to track aggregate and statistical information about user activity, and to display advertising both on our Site and on third-party sites.
[Disabling Cookies] Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but if you prefer, you can edit your browser options to block them in the future. The Help portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your computer from accepting new cookies, how to have the browser notify you when you receive a new cookie, or how to disable cookies altogether. Visitors to our Site who disable cookies will be able to browse certain areas of the Site, but some features may not function.
[Clear GIFs, pixel tags and other technologies] Clear GIFs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on your computer’s hard drive, clear GIFs are embedded invisibly on web pages. We may use clear GIFs (a.k.a. web beacons, web bugs or pixel tags), in connection with our Site to, among other things, track the activities of Site visitors, help us manage content, and compile statistics about Site usage. We and our third party service providers also use clear GIFs in HTML emails to our customers, to help us track email response rates, identify when our emails are viewed, and track whether our emails are forwarded.
[Do Not Track] Currently, our systems do not recognize browser “do-not-track” requests. You may, however, disable certain tracking by disabling cookies, as discussed above.
How we use collected information
WattzOn collects and uses Users’ personally identifiable information for the following purposes:
[To provide the Services] The information we collect helps us provide reports and recommendations customized to your particular energy uses.
[To provide Utility Data] The information we collect may be transferred to the third parties that you have permissioned, so that they may track energy usage, encourage energy savings, report your Utility Data to you, and to create personalized product and service offers.
[To personalize the User experience] We may use information in the aggregate to understand how our Users as a group use the services and resources provided on our Site.
[To improve our Site] We continually strive to improve our website offerings based on the information and feedback we receive from you.
[To communicate with you] On occasion we’ll send you content, a promotion, survey or other Site feature. We also send Users information they agreed to receive about topics we think will be of interest to them.
[To send periodic emails] If User decides to opt-in to our mailing list, they will receive emails that may include company news, updates, related product or service information, etc. If at any time the User would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, we include detailed unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of each email. However, we may be required to send certain emails to provide Users with notice in connection with their user of the Service.
Sharing your personal information

[Sharing with third parties you have permissioned] By using our Service in connection with a third party service provider, such as municipality, solar company, home services provider or other third party sponsor, you give us permission to provide your personally identifiable information to that third party, their agents and their affiliates. (Agents and affiliates may include marketing and sales partners that operate under a different name than the third party sponsoring our Service.) If the site through which you are accessing the Service is otherwise sponsored by a third party, you give us permission to provide your personally identifiable information to that third party, and its agents and affiliates. Such third party’s use of your personally identifiable information, is subject to the terms governing the relationship between you and such third party.
[Sharing for limited purposes] We may share your information with other third parties for limited purposes provided that you have given us your permission. For example, we may share your information with a green home contractor if you request that we introduce you to a quality home improvement company in your area.
[Supporting internal business functions] We may provide personally identifiable information to third parties for their use in helping us perform our internal business functions. These are things like processing payments, fulfilling orders for products or services, performing maintenance, security, data analysis, email transmissions, or data hosting on our behalf. We require these third parties to maintain your information consistent with their legal obligations.
[Disclosure if required] We may disclose your personal information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that disclosure is necessary to: (1) satisfy legal obligations or comply with legal process (such as a subpoena) served on WattzOn; (2) protect WattzOn and others from fraudulent, abusive, predatory, or unlawful uses or activity; (3) investigate and defend WattzOn against any legal claims or threats; (4) protect and defend the rights or property of WattzOn; (5) take action relating to user complaints, or (6) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of WattzOn, the Service, or the public.
[Disclosure if corporate financial transaction] We may disclose and otherwise transfer your personal information to an acquirer, or to a successor or assignee, as part of any merger, acquisition, debt financing, sale of all or a portion of our assets, or similar transaction, as well as in the event of an insolvency, bankruptcy, or receivership, in which your personal information is transferred to one or more third parties as one of our business assets.
[Disclosure of aggregated data] We may disclose aggregated or other types of non-personally identifiable information, including “automatically collected” and “cookies” information that are non-personally identifiable, to third parties for various purposes. For example, we may disclose non-personally identifiable information to interested third parties to assist them in understanding the usage, viewing, and demographic patterns for certain programs, content, services, advertisements, promotions, or functionality on the Service. We may share generic aggregated demographic information not linked to any personally identifiable information regarding visitors and users with our business partners, trusted affiliates and advertisers for the purposes outlined above.
Information that We Collect About You from Social Networking Sites
You also may log into our Services through your social networking accounts, including Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google. If you do this, we obtain information from these sites as follows:
Facebook. If you log into our Services using Facebook, you must enter your Facebook email address and password. We will ask that you grant us permission to: (i) access and collect your Facebook basic information (this includes your name, profile picture, gender, networks, user IDs, list of friends, date of birth, email address, location, and any other information you have set to public on your Facebook account)[; (ii) send you email; (iii) post to your Wall; (iv) access posts in your newsfeed; and (v) access your Facebook data at any time even if you are not using Facebook]. If you allow us to have access to this information, then we will have access to this information even if you have chosen not to make that information public.
Twitter. If you log into our Site or Services using your Twitter account, you must enter your Twitter email address and password. By logging in through
We store the information that we receive from Facebook and Twitter with other information that we collect from you or receive about you.
Any third-party social networking site controls the information it collects from you. For information about they may use and disclose your information, including any information you make public, please consult their respective privacy policies. We have no control over how any third party site uses or discloses the personal information it collects about you.
How we protect your information
We adopt appropriate data collection, storage and processing practices and security measures to protect against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction of your personal information, username, password, transaction information and data stored on our Site.
Despite our efforts, however, we cannot and do not guarantee the security of the information we collect from you or receive from third-parties concerning you or that such information will not be accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed by breach of any of our physical, technical, or managerial safeguards.
Historical data and on-going data retrieval
WattzOn will transfer historical utility bill and usage data to the third-party that you have permissioned. The amount of historical data transferred will depend the data available from the utility but can range from one month up to five or more years. The frequency of the data available will also depend on the utility, and may include monthly data and/or data from 15-minute intervals and hourly intervals.
WattzOn will keep the data for internal use. You may delete your information at any time.
Some of Wattzon’s products have a feature of automatic on-going data retrieval. This service allows WattzOn to update your data, and to track usage and encourage energy savings. You may halt this automatic retrieval at any time.
You can delete information and/or halt data retrieval
You may delete your personally identifiable information and/or halt automatic data retrieval by emailing us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Third party websites
Users may find advertising or other content on our Site that link to the sites and services of our partners, suppliers, advertisers, sponsors, licensors and other third parties. We do not control the content or links that appear on these sites and are not responsible for the practices employed by websites linked to or from our Site. In addition, these sites or services, including their content and links, may be constantly changing. These sites and services may have their own privacy policies and customer service policies. Browsing and interaction on any other website, including websites which have a link to our Site, is subject to that website’s own terms and policies.
Compliance with children’s online privacy protection act
Protecting the privacy of the very young is especially important. For that reason, we never collect or maintain information at our Site from those we actually know are under 13, and no part of our website is structured to attract anyone under 13.
Your acceptance of these terms
By using this Site or the Service, you signify your acceptance of this policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use our Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes to this policy will be deemed your acceptance of those changes.
